Description

You will provide patient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment plans in accordance with professional statutes, regulations, and protocols. In collaboration with a staff psychiatrist, nursing staff, technical personnel, and counselors, you will deliver psychiatric health services including education, counseling, and emotional support, including referrals for inpatient care when needed. You will also prescribe medications per treatment guidelines, order and interpret lab tests, communicate with patients for follow-up, and may provide primary medical care services as indicated.

Responsibilities

• Conduct patient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning

• Collaborate with the staff psychiatrist and interdisciplinary care team

• Provide psychiatric health services, counseling, and emotional support

• Refer patients for inpatient care as necessary

• Issue medication prescriptions in line with treatment guidelines

• Order laboratory tests and interpret results for patients

• Provide patient education on medications, risks, benefits, and expected outcomes

• Communicate with patients and manage follow-up

• Provide primary medical care services when indicated (as permitted)

• Perform related duties as assigned

Requirements

• MSN (or equivalent graduate nursing degree) with a Psychiatric/Mental Health emphasis from an accredited college or university

• 3 years of experience related to the duties described

• Current licensure as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in the state of New York
