Description

Provide psychiatric patient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning in accordance with professional statutes, regulations, and protocols. Collaborate with the staff psychiatrist, nursing staff, technical personnel, and counselors to deliver psychiatric health services including education, counseling, and emotional support. Prescribe medications per treatment guidelines, order and interpret laboratory tests, educate patients about medications and outcomes, and coordinate follow-up; you may also provide primary medical care services as indicated.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients, diagnose, and develop treatment plans

• Collaborate with staff psychiatrist and care team (nursing, technical personnel, counselors)

• Provide psychiatric health services, education, counseling, and emotional support

• Refer patients for inpatient care with the staff psychiatrist as needed

• Prescribe medications according to treatment guidelines

• Order laboratory tests and interpret results for patients

• Educate patients on medications, risks/benefits, and expected outcomes

• Communicate with patients and provide follow-up

• Provide primary medical care services when indicated and permitted

Requirements

• Master of Science in Nursing with Psychiatric/Mental Health emphasis from an accredited institution

• 3 years of experience related to the duties described

• Licensed as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner within the state of New York (NY)
