Description

Infectious Disease Physicians specialize in diagnosing and treating infectious diseases, focusing on how infections spread, how the body responds, and how to control disease. The specialist reviews patient records and referrals, runs and interprets diagnostic tests, and creates individualized treatment plans. The role also includes immunization and prevention education and community-based outbreak identification and recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Review patient medical records, including x-rays, blood work, and other lab tests

• Review referral information from other medical professionals

• Run diagnostic tests for unidentified or drug-resistant infections

• Analyze test results to create a viable treatment plan

• Consult with other healthcare professionals about difficult infection cases

• Conduct physical exams and order additional laboratory tests

• Administer immunizations or instruct patients on infectious disease prevention

• Provide treatment regimens tailored to patient and population needs

• Work with communities to identify outbreaks and recommend treatment options and prevention measures

• Conduct research on new strains of illness

• Track community statistics on spread and the effectiveness of treatment interventions

Requirements

• Valid NYS Medical License

• Certification/knowledge credential in infectious disease treatment, spread, containment, and outcomes

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Bilingual (Spanish) fluency strongly preferred
