Description

The Infectious Disease Physician provides specialized training in internal medicine with a focus on diagnosing and treating infectious diseases. The physician is responsible for understanding disease spread, the body’s response, and strategies to control infection in individual patients and the broader community.

Responsibilities

• Review patient medical records, including X-rays, blood work, and other lab tests

• Review referral information from other medical professionals

• Run diagnostic tests for unidentified or drug-resistant infections

• Analyze test results to create viable, individualized treatment plans

• Consult with other medical professionals for difficult infection cases

• Conduct physical exams and order additional laboratory tests

• Administer immunizations or instruct patients on infectious disease prevention

• Provide treatment regimens tailored to specific patient and population needs

• Work with communities to identify outbreaks and recommend treatment options and prevention measures

• Conduct research on new illness strains and track community statistics on spread and treatment effectiveness

Requirements

• Valid NYS Medical License

• Certification demonstrating knowledge of treatment, spread, containment, and outcomes for patients with infectious diseases

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Bilingual fluency in Spanish strongly preferred
