Description

The Infectious Disease Physician diagnoses and treats infectious diseases by reviewing patient records, imaging, blood work, and lab tests, and by running/ordering diagnostics for unidentified or drug-resistant infections. The physician analyzes results to build viable treatment plans, consults with other clinicians on complex cases, and supports prevention through immunizations and patient education. The role also works with communities to identify outbreaks and recommend measures to help prevent spread, while conducting research and tracking community statistics on disease spread and treatment effectiveness.

Responsibilities

• Review patient medical records, including x-rays, blood work, and other lab tests

• Review referral information from other medical professionals

• Run diagnostic tests for unidentified or drug-resistant infections

• Analyze test results to create patient treatment plans

• Consult with other medical professionals about difficult infection cases

• Conduct physical exams and order additional laboratory tests

• Administer immunizations or instruct patients on infectious disease prevention

• Provide treatment regimens tailored to specific patient and population needs

• Work with communities to identify outbreaks and infectious diseases and recommend treatment and prevention measures

• Conduct research on new strains and track community statistics on spread and effectiveness of interventions

Requirements

• Valid NYS Medical License

• Certification demonstrating knowledge of the treatment, spread, containment, and outcomes for infectious disease patients

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Bilingual fluency in Spanish strongly preferred
