Description

You will lead the product design, development, and continuous improvement of electrical power distribution equipment used across AWS data centers. The work spans the electrical distribution chain—from medium voltage switchgear and transformers to low voltage switchgear, generators, busduct, transfer switches, power distribution cabinets, and related infrastructure. Responsibilities include defining design requirements, validating designs through prototype and first-of-kind builds, and partnering with suppliers, manufacturing, and field teams to ensure performance, reliability, and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Solicit customer input and define design requirements for product design with internal partner teams

• Lead new product design, development, and qualification of critical electrical power distribution equipment

• Develop Capex and Opex budgets with vendor, prototyping, testing, and specialized tooling considerations

• Specify electrical equipment and components with global suppliers and manufacturers to improve tier 2–3 supply chain resiliency

• Ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC, and applicable federal/state/municipal building codes across different countries through appropriate testing

• Validate designs through prototype, pre-production, and first-of-kind builds; conduct DFx and value engineering and update design and documentation

• Work with field engineering and commissioning teams to test and validate installation, operation, and performance

• Support manufacturing activities for new products across multiple geographic locations

• Provide leadership across the product development team and internal/external partners

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field

• 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission-critical facilities (data centers, power generation, or oil and gas)

• Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment

• Experience developing solutions and executing plans on complex projects

• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities
