Description

You will help define the future application architecture and modernization path for legacy systems, moving from IBM AS/400 (iSeries) environments toward a cloud-native, API-driven Java platform.

This is a transformation role: you will design strategies for replatforming, refactoring, or rebuilding and apply microservices, event-driven architecture, and API-first design.

You will turn architecture diagrams into reality by collaborating closely with development teams and supporting modern engineering practices.

Responsibilities

• Define the target application architecture and future application landscape

• Modernize legacy applications by choosing the right approach (replatform, refactor, rebuild)

• Apply microservices, event-driven architecture, and API-first design

• Evaluate cloud technologies across AWS, Azure, or GCP

• Design Java-based distributed solutions with enterprise databases and integration technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ

• Create developer-ready architecture documentation (HLDs, LLDs, C4 diagrams, ADRs)

• Support delivery with modern practices including CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps

• Collaborate with development teams and business stakeholders on technical decisions

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience designing application or cloud architectures

• Practical Java experience (Java is a key technology)

• Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (Azure preferred)

• Experience with enterprise databases: PostgreSQL, Oracle, or SQL Server

• Knowledge of software delivery practices: CI/CD, DevOps, Infrastructure as Code

• Ability to discuss architecture with both developers and business stakeholders

• English essential

• Experience with AI tools and modern digital technologies
