Description

You will help assess, select, and improve colocation facilities by applying deep knowledge of data center electrical and mission-critical infrastructure design, engineering, and operations. The role includes reviewing vendor electrical infrastructure designs, performing risk analysis and availability calculations, and troubleshooting failures with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective Action (CA) documentation. You will also influence upgrades and new construction outcomes through audits, design approvals, construction, commissioning, and turnover.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site assessments against AWS standards for colocation data centers and telecommunications facilities within the region
• Review vendor critical infrastructure designs and perform risk analysis and availability calculations to determine fit-for-use/fit-for-service
• Perform design and equipment submittal reviews for new data centers in your region
• Troubleshoot, conduct RCA, and create CA documentation for site/equipment failures
• Support operational issues through ad-hoc training and complex operating procedure reviews, including event support
• Own design for existing data center upgrades to add capacity, improve availability, and increase efficiency
• Lead/review/approve designs for existing colocation upgrades that improve availability and efficiency
• Interface with internal design engineering and EHS teams to promote consistent standards and reliability
• Work on concurrent projects, sometimes across multiple geographical regions
• Initiate and lead engineering site audits within Amazon-owned or colo data centers
• Act as resident engineer during new construction; support construction, commissioning, and turnover

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
• 5+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission-critical facilities (data centers, power generation, or oil and gas)
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) License
• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
• Experience with regional building codes and regulations
• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
• 5+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning experience for electrical and mechanical systems
