MES Tech Lead / Software Architect

Description

You will provide technical leadership for a scalable, maintainable, modular MES architecture, ensuring system stability, performance, and scalability. The role includes structured architecture and code reviews, implementation of automated testing strategies, and integration of MES with adjacent systems such as ERP, SCADA, and production equipment. You will also develop a holistic AI strategy within the MES context across the full DevOps lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Lead the MES development team; mentor colleagues and enable know-how transfer
• Design, document, and continuously improve MES software architecture (scalable, maintainable, modular)
• Ensure system stability, performance, and scalability
• Run structured architecture and code reviews; implement automated test strategies to maintain high software quality
• Develop and maintain interfaces between MES and neighboring systems (ERP, SCADA, production plants)
• Integrate new features into the existing system landscape
• Steer technical project execution in close collaboration with the Product Owner and other business areas
• Track technology trends, evaluate new tools and methods, and contribute to innovations for the MES roadmap
• Own the further development of a comprehensive AI strategy for the MES context across the full DevOps lifecycle

Requirements

• Completed degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or comparable qualification
• 5+ years of experience in architecture and development of MES solutions, ideally with initial leadership experience
• Excellent Java skills and strong experience with modern frameworks: Spring, WildFly, Hibernate, JavaEE/JakartaEE; able to develop frontend and backend components
• Advanced SQL skills, database design experience, and deep understanding of industrial manufacturing processes
• Practical experience applying agile methods such as Scrum or Kanban
• Analytical, structured approach; high problem-solving skills; strong teamwork and communication
• Fluent German and very good English
• Proven experience implementing AI across the end-to-end DevOps lifecycle (development, QA, operations, automation)
