Description

Leads Offshore/Operations Engineering to deliver safe, reliable, compliant, and cost-effective rig performance. Manages Operations Engineers, sets technical and operational priorities, and partners across functions and with clients to convert engineering recommendations into effective field execution. Uses independent judgment to resolve complex issues, allocate resources, and drive continuous improvement.

Role Responsibilities

  • Provide visible leadership aligned with HSE, accountability, and operational excellence
  • Lead, coach, and develop Operations Engineers; set expectations and provide performance feedback
  • Prioritize work and allocate engineering resources based on operational risk, client commitments, business value, and workforce capacity
  • Serve as senior liaison to operator and company leadership; translate operational requirements into technical plans and accountabilities
  • Escalate and provide technical leadership for complex equipment, structural, maintenance, and operational issues
  • Define objectives and approve operating plans, engineering deliverables, manpower, schedules, budgets, and risk controls
  • Own the quality and timeliness of customer performance reviews and ensure commitments are tracked to closure using accurate data
  • Review drilling performance, safety trends, downtime, reliability, and operational risks; direct root-cause analysis and approve corrective actions/procedural changes
  • Establish engineering standards, operating procedures, technical assurance practices, and management-of-change discipline
  • Oversee planning and follow-through for structural inspections, maintenance programs, and critical equipment certifications; verify timely closure
  • Monitor rig/equipment condition, preventive maintenance performance, and emerging technical risks; ensure mitigation plans are implemented
  • Review and communicate reports to senior management and customers on progress, risks, engineering workload, equipment needs, budget performance, and improvements
  • Build cross-functional relationships with HSE, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Finance, Human Resources, and other engineering disciplines to remove barriers and deliver integrated solutions

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • 10+ years experience supporting drilling or offshore operations
  • Experience leading engineers/technical professionals
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent priorities
  • Strong working knowledge of API specifications and recommended practices applicable to drilling rigs, structures, and critical equipment
  • Strong working knowledge of Federal Outer Continental Shelf regulations, including Title 30 CFR Part 250 and SEMS requirements
  • Comprehensive knowledge of drilling operations, rig systems, equipment reliability, structural integrity, inspection programs, and maintenance practices (including legacy/SCR rig systems)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead across multiple engineering disciplines and operational groups; make sound risk-based decisions
  • People leadership capability (coaching, performance management, conflict resolution, talent development, succession planning)
  • Proven commitment to safety leadership, including the ability to stop or redirect work when risk is not adequately controlled
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills
  • Ability to review and interpret engineering drawings, calculations, inspection reports, and technical specifications
  • Ability to analyze complex rig platform problems and direct technical service and solutions for equipment, structural, maintenance, and operational issues
  • Proficiency with PC-based applications (Excel, Word); experience with operational performance/maintenance/business-intelligence systems preferred
