Description

The Senior Mechanical Engineering Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for the Mechanical Engineering function. The role drives engineering standards and technical governance while overseeing mechanical execution, product architecture, and technology direction across product development and lifecycle initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Mechanical Engineering organization to support business objectives and engineering excellence

  • Build organizational capability through recruiting, mentoring, succession planning, and talent development

  • Establish engineering standards, methodologies, and best practices; foster accountability and continuous improvement

  • Provide technical leadership for new product development, sustaining engineering, and strategic technology initiatives

  • Lead design reviews and guide complex engineering challenges (performance, reliability, safety, manufacturability, serviceability)

  • Ensure sound engineering principles, risk management, and design verification methodologies

  • Execute engineering projects through resource allocation, prioritization, and risk management

  • Improve engineering processes, tools, systems, and performance metrics

  • Enhance engineering change management, product data management, configuration control, and development workflows

  • Support transitions from concept through production and lifecycle support

  • Provide leadership for mechanical system architecture and long-term technology strategy; promote scalable modular and serviceable product designs

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to improve competitiveness

  • Partner with Product Management, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Service, Laboratory Services, and Commercial teams

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and quality requirements; champion quality via design reviews, risk assessments, root cause analysis, and corrective actions

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline

  • Master’s degree preferred in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Business Administration, or related discipline

  • 15+ years of progressive engineering experience in product development and/or engineering leadership

  • 7+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams or functions

  • Demonstrated success leading engineering organizations through growth, product development, and continuous improvement

  • Experience developing engineering talent, succession plans, and future technical leaders

  • Experience managing engineering resources, priorities, and organizational performance across multiple initiatives

  • Experience supporting product development in industrial equipment/instrumentation/electromechanical systems/laboratory equipment/environmental simulation (or similar)

  • Expertise in mechanical product development: requirements development, design, analysis, prototyping, testing, and production release

  • Strong knowledge of machine design, materials selection, thermal systems, fluid systems, structural design, manufacturing processes, and reliability engineering

  • Proficiency with modern 3D CAD and engineering documentation

  • Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance analysis, engineering drawings, and product configuration management

  • Experience creating/reviewing engineering drawings, assemblies, BOMs, and product documentation

  • Experience with engineering change management, product lifecycle management, and ERP/MRP systems

  • Experience with FEA, CFD, thermal analysis, and validation testing

  • Ability to lead design reviews and evaluate solutions for technical, manufacturing, serviceability, quality, and cost considerations

  • Ability to contribute hands-on when required while maintaining leadership responsibilities

  • Familiarity with product safety, CE, IEC standards, certification programs, and regulatory compliance

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools; able to identify appropriate AI use cases and critically evaluate AI outputs
