Job Summary
Seeking an experienced, visionary physician leader for System Medical Director of Senior Health and System Geriatrics. The role provides strategic and operational leadership for senior health services across an integrated healthcare system, with administrative responsibility in geriatric medical practice and a clinical practice focused on patient-centered care.
The Medical Director collaborates with physicians, advanced practice clinicians, operational leaders, and multidisciplinary care teams to advance quality, safety, patient experience, and clinical outcomes for older adults.
Key Position Details

- Drive strategic initiatives in Senior Health
- Partner closely with operational and executive leadership
- Lead quality, patient-experience, and care-transformation efforts
- Maintain a meaningful clinical practice caring for older adults
- Practice primarily in Senior Health Co-Care, providing in-home care to complex patients; average of 5 to 6 patients per clinical day
- Flexibility to practice in other areas as desired
- Participation in Senior Health call rotation required
- Influence physician engagement, recruitment, and development across the system
- Shape innovative models of care for an aging population
Job Description
Provide direct patient care by reviewing medical histories and collecting, prioritizing, and synthesizing comprehensive data relevant to each patient's health situation. Provide education, consultation, and treatment interventions for patients and families.
Monitor delivery of medical care and clinical services across sites or within the clinical service line. Facilitate communication among physicians, site administration, and employees; oversee committee meetings; lead quality-measure and patient-experience improvement efforts; manage physician staff; and manage clinical-service-line or cross-site budgets.
Principle Responsibilities
Medical Leadership in Clinical Service Line or Across Locations
- Monitor delivery of medical care and clinical services across the clinical service line or sites
- Facilitate communication between physicians, site administration, and employees
- Oversee department committees
- Lead efforts to achieve quality goals and improve patient care and patient experience
- Oversee physician performance management, staffing, evaluation, and hiring decisions across locations
- Conduct orientation and ongoing education for physicians
- Partner with organizational leadership to coordinate teams and execute policies and agendas
- Manage budget and financial performance for physician services
- Guide physicians in patient-treatment decisions as needed
- Participate in medical staff committees, system committees, and initiatives as needed
- Provide input on hiring and promotion decisions for unit staff as needed
- Conduct education for physicians and staff as needed
Direct Patient Care
- Review patient medical histories and collect, prioritize, and synthesize relevant health data
- Evaluate, interpret, and coordinate information to make patient-care decisions and recommendations
- Provide education, consultation, and treatment plans to patients and families
- Collaborate with patients to improve health and well-being
- Practice with consideration for cultural diversity, individual autonomy, and legal responsibilities
- Document electronically in accordance with licensure and scope of practice
- Participate actively in a multidisciplinary case-management approach
- Provide care in ambulatory clinic, inpatient, or outpatient hospital settings as needed
- Participate in on-call rotation as needed
Quality
- Use quality-improvement tools to develop processes supporting continuous improvement in patient care, outcomes, and workflows
- Participate in peer review and quality assurance as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or foreign-equivalent medical degree from an approved school of medicine
- Completed residency program applicable to clinical specialty
Preferred Qualifications
- Board certification in Geriatric Medicine
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Geriatric Medicine
- Three or more years of demonstrated experience in the designated specialty preferred
Licenses/Certifications
- Minnesota Board of Medical Practice physician license required upon hire
- ACLS-BLS Tier 3 certification required within 180 days
- Wisconsin physician license required upon hire
- Drug Enforcement Agency certificate required upon hire
- Prescription Monitoring Program registration required upon hire
- National Provider Identifier required upon hire
Physical Demands
Medium work: Lift up to 32 lbs. occasionally and up to 25 lbs. frequently.
Pay Range
$281,200 to $296,000 per year. Starting base pay depends on factors including experience, education, and applicable union agreement.
