Description

Lead end-to-end engineering for an AI-powered fresh buying product used by distribution center buyers to decide what to buy, how much, and when—directly impacting in-store availability and reducing food waste. Own the DC Buying roadmap with product, design, data engineering, and applied science, and partner with customers to ensure what you build fits buyers’ daily workflows.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering: hire, develop, and retain a senior team of product engineers; set expectations; address performance directly and on time

• Set the technical bar: review architecture, push back on unnecessary complexity, and actively manage technical debt

• Cross-team collaboration: build relationships with platform, data, and AI engineering leaders to use shared tooling

• Own the roadmap: balance customer requests, technical investment, and business goals; understand users and key metrics

• Execute effectively: make clear commitments; communicate early about risks/slippage; scope work with cost and timeline

• Reliability & data quality: own on-call health, reliability, and product data quality

• Be an example: build a culture of ownership (not ticketing), involve engineers early with customers/product/design, and solve problems creatively

Requirements

• 8+ years in software engineering, including 3+ years managing engineering teams

• Experience developing, scaling, and supporting mission-critical production products

• Strong technical range across front-end, back-end, data pipelines, and applied science

• Proven ability to hire, grow, and manage team performance and build an ownership culture

• Clear, direct communication with stakeholders, executives, and customers

• Comfort with ambiguity and growth-stage pressure; ability to re-plan quickly as priorities shift
