Description

Lead a cross-functional engineering team with a primary focus on backend system design, architecture, database development, API optimization, and overall backend performance. You will build and optimize scalable, secure, high-performance backend systems and APIs aligned to product requirements while collaborating closely with frontend engineers. You’ll mentor engineers and drive operational excellence through code quality, QA, and production monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a cross-functional team of frontend and backend engineers

• Drive backend system design, architecture, database development, API optimization, and performance

• Design, develop, and optimize scalable, secure, high-performance backend systems and APIs

• Collaborate with product managers, stakeholders, and frontend teams to define technical requirements and deliver integrated solutions

• Oversee code quality with code reviews, ensure robust QA processes, and monitor production systems

• Support junior engineers through mentorship and continuous learning

• Champion backend best practices: database design, API development, and distributed system architecture

• Manage and prioritize tasks in an Agile team to deliver on milestones

• Ensure seamless backend and frontend integration to optimize user experience

• Improve system performance and scale backend infrastructure to meet business needs

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field

• 8+ years of backend development experience, including 2+ years in a senior or lead position

• Expertise in Python, Java, or Go

• Strong understanding of PostgreSQL and building RESTful APIs

• Excellent communication and collaboration in cross-functional teams

• Strong architectural and systems thinking, especially for distributed systems

• Experience with Linux, AWS, and Docker

Benefits

• $170,000 – $185,000 per year
