Description

Own and evolve architecture spanning multiple business units, defining domain boundaries and ensuring correct layering for product logic, policy, and funds flow. Lead cross-team design and architecture reviews, drive shared-system decomposition/unification roadmaps, and actively prevent accumulated complexity through deprecations and clear ownership. Use AI tools daily for design exploration, code analysis, and review, and help set standards and guardrails for responsible AI-assisted development.

Responsibilities

• Define domain boundaries and decide where cross-cutting concerns belong
• Lead architecture decision-making and record decisions in durable ADRs
• Drive decomposition and unification for shared systems, including user-state splitting across domains
• Integrate deprecation, experiment cleanup, and ownership into the design process
• Partner with Platform and Money Platform engineering leads to adopt practical standards
• Build and maintain AI tooling/agents and documentation to make architecture legible to engineers and AI coding agents
• Establish review practices and patterns to keep AI-generated code consistent with architecture
• Mentor staff and senior engineers through design reviews and code guidance
• Contribute to hiring and onboarding; represent engineering in technical discussions with product, risk, and leadership

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in CS/CE or related field, or equivalent industry experience
• 10+ years of backend/full-stack development with large distributed systems
• Domain boundary and service contract definition across multiple teams
• Practical knowledge of domain-driven design, event-driven systems, and clean architecture
• Daily hands-on use of AI coding and design tools, including examples of impact
• Experience leading cross-team initiatives and influencing without direct authority
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to document trade-offs and decisions
• Ability to resolve disagreements between teams

Benefits

Base salary range (Mountain View): $279,000–$341,000 plus equity and benefits.
