Description

As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, you provide technical vision and architectural leadership across multiple squads, partnering closely with Engineering leadership to deliver scalable, reliable systems. You drive performance, quality, CI/CD, observability, and strategic refactors, while mentoring engineers and establishing code and architecture review standards. You help lead cross-squad initiatives and ensure company-wide architectural direction connects back to the squads.

Responsibilities

• Serve as your Engineering Director’s technical eyes across multiple squads; review suspicious code/PRs/designs and return clear findings
• Drive application performance, quality, and responsiveness for core domain systems
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and architects to design high-performance, scalable, reliable architecture
• Define subsystem boundaries and recommend strategic functionality placement
• Maintain code quality standards; conduct code and architectural reviews; coach teams on principles aligned with system design
• Identify and drive architectural enhancements and strategic refactoring for scalability and maintainability
• Guide teams to design automated tests at optimal architectural layers to maximize signal and minimize brittleness
• Maintain and improve continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) environments
• Mentor engineers across the organization to elevate technical capability and domain knowledge
• Lead cross-squad initiatives; represent domains in architecture discussions; connect company-wide direction (e.g., sharding, IAM, monolith decomposition) back to squads

Requirements

• 9+ years of experience designing, building, and operating complex production systems
• Deep experience with modern backend frameworks (Ruby on Rails, Django, Spring Boot)
• Proficiency in multiple programming languages (JavaScript, Python, Go, Java, Node.js)
• Deep expertise with cloud platforms (AWS), containerization, and serverless/cloud-native architectures
• Proven success applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD) across multiple teams or domains
• Experience architecting event-driven systems using Kafka or SQS
• Experience defining/improving CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab) and automated testing strategies
• Expertise in scalable API design and management (RESTful APIs, GraphQL)
• Strong system observability practices and performance diagnostics
• Proven experience improving team efficiency or output quality through AI tools and automation
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering (or equivalent work experience)
