Description

You will lead and transform a distributed Sandbox engineering organization responsible for service ownership, development, performance, reliability, capacity, and roadmap execution. The role manages engineering managers and individual contributors, sets technical vision and makes critical product success decisions, and drives reliability at very large scale. You will also partner with product and cross-functional teams to enable rapid, agentic development through effective sandbox environments and AI-assisted development/operations.

Responsibilities

• Own and be accountable for Sandbox engineering end-to-end service delivery: development, performance, reliability, and capacity
• Directly manage and develop engineering managers and individual contributors in a distributed team
• Build a leadership bench (hire, grow, retain managers and senior engineers) and ensure no single point of failure in management coverage
• Execute the roadmap in collaboration with product management, architects, UX, support, and partner teams
• Make critical technical decisions through a strong technical vision and influence
• Own reliability and performance at very large scale
• Partner with product management on objectives, priorities, trade-offs, and risk; ensure clear priorities and adequate resources
• Provide technical guidance, career development, and mentoring; maintain high morale
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted development and development-driven operations
• Drive a culture of engineering excellence and accountability

Requirements

• Related technical degree
• 8+ years leading software engineering teams, including 3+ years managing managers
• Proven experience leading large-scale distributed systems
• Demonstrated success building leadership benches and developing managers and senior engineers
• Experience leading geographically distributed teams across time zones
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to present strategy and trade-offs to executives
• Flexible, proactive, and comfortable working with minimal specifications and shifting priorities
• Working knowledge of software engineering best practices (coding standards, code reviews, SCM, CI, build processes, testing, and operations)
