Description

You will administer and optimize MariaDB and PostgreSQL clusters that power ServiceNow customer instance backends. The role includes driving the technical transition toward PostgreSQL, ensuring strict SLA targets for Sovereign Cloud services (including HA, disaster recovery, and minimal replication lag), and automating provisioning, cloning, and self-healing processes. You will monitor SQL performance, troubleshoot proactively (including on-call), and implement security hardening and regular patching aligned with BSI C5 and ISO 27001.

Responsibilities

• Administration, scaling, and performance optimization of MariaDB and PostgreSQL clusters

• Technology roadmap execution for introducing and transitioning to PostgreSQL

• Ensure SLA compliance for HA, disaster recovery, and minimal database replication delay

• Automate provisioning, cloning, and self-healing using Unix, Git, Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD pipelines

• Monitor database performance (e.g., SQL response times) and perform proactive troubleshooting; participate in on-call duty

• Implement security hardening and regular patching in line with compliance (BSI C5, ISO 27001)

Requirements

• Degree in (business) informatics or comparable technical IT training

• Several years of experience in database administration

• In-depth expertise in administering and optimizing MariaDB and PostgreSQL

• Understanding of architectural dependencies between complex Java-based enterprise applications (e.g., ServiceNow) and the relational database layer

• Practical experience building highly available database architectures with replication and cloud backup/recovery strategies

• Agile mindset (Scrum/Kanban)

• Ability to integrate infrastructure needs as Infrastructure as Code (IaC) into CI/CD pipelines

• Strong communication skills; very good German and good English

• Fast comprehension, solution-oriented and independent working style
