Description

You’ll design and improve digital product experiences by translating user research into prototypes, visualizations, and UX strategies. The role combines strategic work (concepting and reviewing shared standards and design systems) with hands-on delivery in the product backlog. You’ll collaborate with frontend developers on design-system components and use AI-assisted tools to experiment with new design processes.

Responsibilities

  • Help make journalistic content and regional brands more engaging for new and younger audiences

  • Develop and validate prototypes, visualizations, and UX approaches to improve usability and competitiveness

  • Conduct user tests, user research, and desk research independently and derive design decisions

  • Work with frontend developers to build components for the design system

  • Align concepts and proposals with stakeholders and external partners, coordinating review processes

  • Participate in product planning, reviews, retrospectives, and refinement sessions

  • Support visual design by creating graphics when needed

Requirements

  • Professional or academic degree in design, media design, software development, or a comparable background with emphasis on digital design

  • Several years of experience in developing digital products, ideally for journalism or digital media products

  • Confident, routine use of Figma, Jira, Slack, Adobe, and Asana

  • Ability to independently organize multiple user-research projects and engage directly with target users via interviews, surveys, or user tests

  • Preference for working with AI-assisted tools such as Claude, Figma AI, large language models, and agentic systems; willingness to experiment with new processes for product design

  • Very good German skills (at least C1) in speaking and writing
