Description
As an Electrical Manufacturing Engineering Co-Op, you will support the build, testing, and continuous improvement of electrical and electromechanical assemblies in a fast-paced production environment. The role includes process development and validation, assembly troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and documentation that helps operators build safely and consistently. You will also identify ergonomic and safety risks and help implement safer, more reliable manufacturing practices.
Role Responsibilities
Support build, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical and electromechanical assemblies
Assist in developing and validating manufacturing processes for electrical and mechanical sub-systems
Create, update, and maintain clear and operator-friendly work instructions
Collaborate with technicians and operators to ensure documentation matches real production practices
Perform root-cause analysis on defects and implement corrective and preventive actions
Conduct time studies, workflow analysis, and process mapping to drive improvement
Participate in equipment setup, calibration checks, and verification of test fixtures
Identify ergonomic, safety, and process-related risks; recommend and help implement safety improvements
Assist with data collection and analysis for yield, scrap, and process capability metrics
Work cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and operations to resolve production issues
Use lean manufacturing tools (5S, Kaizen, standard work) to support continuous improvement
Maintain engineering documentation, drawings, and revision control records
Provide hands-on support during engineering builds, pilot runs, and validation
Assist in troubleshooting equipment and basic maintenance to reduce downtime
Provide manufacturing-focused feedback during design reviews
Help develop test procedures and verify electrical test equipment functionality
Requirements
Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical field
Expected graduation Spring 2027 or later (Electrical Engineering preferred)
Familiar with the university’s requirements to participate in a co-op program
Available to work 40 hours a week, M–F (8a–5p) beginning in January through June
Foundational understanding of electrical circuits, components, and basic electromechanical systems
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams
Experience using basic hand tools, measurement devices, and standard lab/test equipment (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for troubleshooting manufacturing/assembly issues
Competent with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Ability to write, update, and follow technical documentation (work instructions or SOPs)
Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts (5S, standard work, waste reduction)
Strong communication skills with technicians, operators, and cross-functional engineering teams
Detail-oriented mindset focused on safety, quality, and process consistency
Ability to work hands-on in production or lab environment
Willingness to learn new tools, processes, and equipment quickly
