Description

This role applies design thinking to turn user research insights into actionable, compliant design for medical devices and combination products. You’ll design physical and digital products, packaging, and instructional materials (including physical and digital IFUs) while aligning with regulatory and labeling expectations. Success depends on translating user needs into intuitive UX/UI and production-ready prototypes and assets.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with lead designers to scope, design, and deliver user-centric physical and digital products, packaging, and UI
  • Create packaging artwork solutions that meet regulatory, labeling, branding, and readability requirements
  • Own instructional design strategy and style guides for Instructions for Use, Quick Reference Guides, labeling, and digital instructional formats
  • Conduct exploratory research; evaluate UI concepts; translate user needs into UX and interface specifications; iteratively test UI
  • Create user journeys, illustrations, storyboards, prototypes, and wireframes
  • Advocate for patient, clinician, and user needs throughout regulated product development
  • Select appropriate tools for each output category (physical, printed, packaging, and digital) and communicate design intent
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, human factors, quality, clinical & medical affairs, regulatory affairs, commercial, legal, and purchasing
  • Manage vendors and external partners to support delivery (up to 10% yearly travel may be required)

Requirements

  • Master’s degree and 3+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Relevant background: UI/UX Design, Industrial/Creative Design, Medical Illustration, Information Design, User Experience, or Usability Engineering in device/biotech/consumer technology
  • UX/UI design proficiency (user research, prototyping, usability testing)
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
  • Strong 2D vector and technical illustration / visual asset creation
  • Experience producing photorealistic product and packaging renderings (e.g., Photoshop/KeyShot or equivalent)
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks or Fusion 360)
  • Advanced Figma skills, including design systems, prototyping, and UX/UI design
  • Ability to convert low-fidelity concepts, wireframes, and mockups into high-fidelity interactive prototypes and production-ready UI
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance standards for medical device design
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines
