Description

Lead facility and process safety for a defense engineering site by integrating safety into development operations and ensuring compliance with regulatory, industry, and internal standards. Own hazard identification, develop safety management systems and programs, and support safe operating procedures for hazardous operations (including explosive, high voltage, laser, physical, and other unique hazards). Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and regulatory stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop safety management system and program documentation
  • Partner with Engineering to create safe operating procedures with appropriate controls for hazardous operations
  • Track and communicate hazards/near misses; foster employee engagement and open communication
  • Review and improve chemical handling and storage practices; support appropriate PPE selection
  • Facilitate Onsite Safety Committee and Management Walks
  • Conduct new-hire safety orientation and develop computer-based safety training
  • Assign and track safety-related actions to completion
  • Perform safety reviews of custom-built equipment to ensure controls meet standards and best practices
  • Support Process Safety Management compliance, including the explosive site safety plan and hazards analysis collaboration
  • Act as primary point of contact for injuries and lead process follow-up for employee care
  • Lead incident/injury reviews to identify system weaknesses and prevent recurrence
  • Facilitate onsite Medical Emergency Response Team
  • Perform ergonomic reviews for office, lab, and assembly operations
  • Serve as an EHS subject matter expert for OSHA General Industry, Process Safety Management, Department of Defense Contractor Safety, and company hazardous operations standards
