Description

Own the technical vision and strategy for a domain within the service mesh and edge tier from design through rollout and long-term health. Lead technical design for complex systems, establish engineering best practices and operational excellence, and resolve ambiguous cross-cutting problems. Coach engineers through reviews and mentorship while partnering with adjacent teams to ensure reliable delivery in a high-traffic production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical vision and strategy for a domain within the service mesh and edge tier from design through implementation, rollout, and long-term health
  • Lead technical design of complex systems, weighing tradeoffs and foreseeing long-term implications
  • Establish and encourage engineering best practices, defining what operational excellence looks like for the systems you own
  • Solve ambiguous, cross-cutting problems and identify productivity improvements beyond your own work
  • Orchestrate the work by sequencing dependencies, surfacing risks early, and adapting plans as requirements shift
  • Partner with adjacent teams and stakeholders when your domain direction touches their systems
  • Coach and provide actionable feedback to other engineers to help them drive projects independently

Requirements

  • End-to-end ownership of the technical vision for a domain/system in a high-traffic production environment (design through rollout)
  • Accountability for the long-term health of production systems
  • Deep experience building and owning production systems code in Go (or similar), with strong fluency in systems patterns and concurrency models
  • Experience operating large-scale distributed systems in production on Kubernetes, Nomad, ECS, or comparable orchestration
  • Track record of establishing engineering best practices and raising the bar for the team
  • Track record of coaching engineers through code review, design feedback, and mentorship
  • Ability to work effectively with peers and stakeholders outside your immediate team
  • Ability to ramp quickly into unfamiliar technical domains and ship meaningful work within months
