Description

You will provide hands-on technical leadership to design and build modern backend software platforms and services supporting virtual cards, payables, acceptance, and Commercial B2B capabilities. You’ll lead architecture and execution across REST/gRPC services, microservices, and event-driven solutions, ensuring quality, reliability, and operational excellence. The role expects a GenAI-first approach—using GenAI/LLMs and guiding the team on best practices for AI-enabled design, coding, testing, troubleshooting, and delivery.

Responsibilities

• Design, document, and implement new systems and enhancements aligned with specs, security standards, and engineering best practices

• Lead REST APIs, gRPC services, backend services, microservices, and event-driven solutions

• Build and evolve scalable, reliable, resilient, fault-tolerant applications

• Create and present design artifacts to stakeholders

• Partner with business and technical stakeholders to deliver high-quality products meeting requirements

• Collaborate with Technical Product Managers to decompose solutions into deliverable work items

• Drive development quality and support zero-defect delivery

• Improve engineering processes via CI/CD pipelines and automation

• Support test and operations teams in troubleshooting, defect research, and root cause analysis

• Mentor junior developers and promote high-quality code delivery

• Identify and implement innovations to standards, processes, and best practices

• Communicate technical trade-offs in business terms

Requirements

• 5+ years relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree (or 2+ years with an advanced degree; or 0 years with a PhD; or 8+ years relevant experience)

• Strong hands-on experience with REST APIs and gRPC

• Strong hands-on experience with J2EE, JDBC, and JMS

• Strong hands-on experience with Spring (Spring Batch, Spring Boot), WebFlux, and Vert.x

• Experience designing and building generative AI applications, including conversational AI and RAG

• Experience with backend services, microservices, and distributed systems; strong event-driven architecture

• Strong understanding of architecture and operations for highly available, scalable applications

• Strong CI/CD and automation using Git, Maven, Jenkins, Chef, Sonar, and JUnit

• Strong ability to write and understand simple and complex SQL

• Strong communication and troubleshooting skills

• Experience in a technical leadership role (mentoring and design leadership)

• Strong hands-on experience with GenAI/LLM-driven engineering workflows; demonstrated GenAI-first approach in personal work and team enablement

• Experience with Kafka and Redis or NoSQL datastores

• Hands-on experience with MySQL, DB2, or Oracle

• Knowledge of shared services/framework development (microservices, containers, caching, API gateway, security)

• DevOps experience in infrastructure automation, monitoring, logging, auditing, and security practices

• Experience designing reusable frameworks/standards/platform capabilities

• Salary range (US applicants): $131,600 to $210,300 per year (may vary by factors such as skills and location)

Additional Information

• Hybrid role; office days confirmed by the hiring manager (minimum 3 days in office)

• Travel: 5–10% of the time
