Staff Product Designer (Consumer)

Senior • On-site

200,000 - 250,000 USD/yr

New York, NY

Quick Facts

  • Role: Staff Product Designer (Consumer)
  • Focus: Own end-to-end design for a consumer product area
  • Work style: Cross-functional, highly measured, experimentation-driven

Description

You will solve consumer problems for people underserved by existing financial products, where design quality directly impacts late fees, credit marks, and interactions with leasing offices. You’ll own a product area end-to-end—setting a vision, defining what “good” looks like, leading discovery through testing, visual design, and implementation. Designs will often start as experiments before becoming the default.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design for your product area, contributing to strategy and roadmap
  • Develop a vision and north star to guide team priorities
  • Own discovery, ideation, testing, visual design, and implementation
  • Design high-trust financial flows, including error, pending, and recovery states
  • Identify customer needs proactively and influence prioritization with cross-functional partners
  • Partner with PM and analytics to structure experiments and measure success
  • Facilitate alignment across stakeholders and designers for a cohesive customer experience
  • Conduct and promote research to inform the roadmap and organization-wide understanding
  • Set standards for interaction design, prototyping, and visual design craft
  • Build detailed prototypes, including micro-interactions and moments of delight
  • Contribute to the Ultraviolet design system by aligning patterns to best practices
  • Model how AI can improve quality and velocity; optionally ship small frontend changes

Requirements

  • 8+ years experience designing and shipping consumer products
  • Design ownership of a product area or a family of features that worked together in a complex space
  • Fluency with experimentation, including A/B tests and funnel/cohort data; able to change direction based on results
  • Strength in handling unglamorous states (errors, edge cases, pending, recovery)
  • Comfort treating technical and regulatory constraints as design inputs
  • Track record of designing simple, intuitive products powered by complex systems and edge cases
  • Comfort documenting and explaining design process and rationale using research and data
  • Proven ability to get things done and support team success
  • Strong native mobile app design experience (iOS and Android)
  • Figma expertise and experience using AI tools to sketch and prototype
  • Comfort with ambiguity and self-starter mindset
  • Portfolio showing contributions to shipped solutions

Benefits

  • Competitive medical, dental, and vision (full-time U.S. employees)
  • Company equity
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Unlimited paid time off + 13 paid holidays
  • Parental leave
  • Free Flex subscription
  • For full-time non-U.S. employees: competitive compensation + company equity, unlimited PTO
