Job Profile Summary

The staff psychiatrist provides psychiatric services for the diagnosis and/or treatment of psychiatric disorders for inpatient and outpatient individuals who present or are referred for care. Professional services are delivered in accordance with approved policies. Outpatient services are provided across offices serving Reno, Pratt, Kingman, Barber, and Harper Counties, while inpatient psychiatric services are provided at the medical center. Travel to branch offices outside the primary site may be required.

Position Relationships

The staff psychiatrist is accountable to the Medical Director for administrative matters and professional services. The role has no administrative direct reports but may be required to clinically supervise professional staff in outpatient and inpatient duties.

The psychiatrist works with professional and clerical staff to provide efficient, quality psychiatric care. The role serves as head of the treatment team for inpatients on the psychiatric unit and for hospital patients requiring psychiatric consultation, and maintains effective liaison with physicians and community referral sources. The psychiatrist also collaborates with administration, nursing, in-service education, medical records, and the business office.

Essential Functions

• Meet productivity standards established by the Board of Directors or modified by the Medical Director.
• Undertake special projects as directed by the Board of Directors or Medical Director.
• Serve as a consultant to professional nursing staff and mental health center staff.
• Participate in educational programs with professional and paraprofessional personnel.
• When assigned, participate with medical-center personnel or other subsidiaries in planning joint administrative or technical programs.
• Review and assume responsibility for treatment methods for referred patients not currently under the care of a psychiatrist.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

• Physician licensed by the Kansas Board of Healing Arts to practice medicine and psychiatry in Kansas.
• Board certification in Psychiatry.
• Member in good standing of the organized medical staff.
• Fully capable and qualified under good medical practice to provide psychiatric services.
• Never excluded and not currently excluded from Medicare, Medicaid, or any federal, state, or local healthcare reimbursement program.
• Compliance with applicable bylaws, rules, regulations, policies, and amendments.
