Work with partners like OpenAI to integrate services directly into the ChatGPT App and pioneer new model capabilities. Accelerated career growth. Flat org chart, ambitious goals, and significant ownership. You’ll report directly to the COO, leading one of the most important growth levers. Why we’re hiring this role: Your car and your home are your most important assets, yet the experience of owning one is fragmented, complicated, and expensive. We are building the first app to manage it all. We launched car insurance in 2019 and became one of the top three brokers in the country, partly by being early adopters of generative AI. Before off-the-shelf platforms existed, we built our own infrastructure to automate sales and service conversations. Today, that system handles a meaningful share of customer interactions end-to-end. The underlying technology is entirely homegrown. Prompts powering the customer-facing chatbot, vehicle photo validation, and back-office automation live across multiple locations with no unified platform or single source of truth. There is no clear owner of major future bets such as voicebot, computer use, and consumer AI applications. This role will own that vision and execution. How you’ll make an impact: - Lead end-to-end development for the AI platform and customer experiences, from roadmap to rollout. - Partner with engineers to design prompt strategies, evaluation frameworks, and guardrails, balancing latency, cost, and accuracy. - Serve as the technical translator between engineering and the broader organization, establishing AI best practices and platform standards. - Drive systematic improvement in answer quality, customer satisfaction, and automation rates through rigorous experimentation. - Work with OpenAI partners to evaluate and deploy next-generation voice models and workflow automation. Who you are: - Technologist deeply engaged with AI and modern LLM systems. - Systems thinker comfortable with API design and system architecture. - Experimenter constantly exploring new AI capabilities. - Data-driven and proficient in SQL for analysis and validation. - Pragmatic in navigating technical tradeoffs and setting platform standards. Ideal experience: - 4+ years in a technical role such as forward deployed engineering or technical product management at a fast-paced startup. - Passion for AI systems including modern LLMs. - Track record of turning complex strategic ideas into scalable, production-grade products. Compensation: Base salary range: $160K - $200K. Compensation may include equity grants. Benefits: Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, paid parental leave, 401(k) with employer matching, and wellness benefits. Equity opportunities may be included as part of total rewards.

Your role in the Team's Success Your primary responsibility will be to lead a small, high-performing engineering team – combining hands-on technical excellence with day-to-day leadership. You'll set technical direction for your domain, drive delivery of business-critical features, and ensure your team operates with an ownership mindset. You'll work as a hands-on practitioner who leads by example, spending significant time writing code while coaching others to grow into independent, self-sufficient engineers. You'll leverage AI-assisted development tools as a core part of your workflow — we expect engineering leaders to actively embrace AI to multiply their team's impact. Think and act like an owner – your leadership directly impacts our customers’ ability to achieve their financial goals. What you'll do Lead end-to-end delivery of features within your domain – from technical design through to production – taking accountability for performance, reliability, and business outcomes Stay hands-on with code, demonstrating high-quality engineering that embodies what a world-class engineer should be – your team learns from your example Coach and develop team members to become independent, self-sufficient engineers – everyone on your team should aspire to grow and operate autonomously Drive technical excellence and raise the bar across your team – set and enforce high standards for code quality, testing, observability, and documentation Partner with Product, Design and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions that champion the client and deliver real commercial value one iteration at a time Identify and escalate risks early, remove delivery blockers, and ensure your team delivers at pace without compromising quality Think big – proactively identify opportunities to improve systems, reduce complexity, and challenge the status quo rather than just maintaining things as they are Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate your team's delivery, improve code quality, and stay at the cutting edge of modern engineering practices You'll need to be willing to commit to an on-call support rota - on-call time is compensated (This is a Full Time employment contract, not B2B) What you'll need for this role For this role, we're looking for someone with: Extensive software engineering experience with a strong track record of technical delivery and informal leadership – you've been the go-to person others turn to for guidance Deep expertise in your core technology stack, particularly Front End expertise in React/React Native – you know when to use the right tool and how to make it sing Battle-tested experience building and operating production systems – you've been on-call when something breaks at night and lived to tell the tale Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop other engineers – you get genuine satisfaction from helping others grow Experience with AI-assisted development tools is expected – we're looking for technical leaders who see AI as a force multiplier, not a threat Whilst a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering would be useful, we value real world practical experience. If you’re an excellent engineering leader then do apply! An ownership mindset that borders on obsessive – you treat every system with care and a focus on the best customer experience possible in terms of speed, reliability, intuitiveness and functionality, and you hold others to the same standard An AI-positive mindset – you see AI tools as amplifiers of engineering capability, not replacements, and you're excited to push the boundaries for you and your team of what's possible with AI-assisted development Strong commitment to engineering excellence: TDD, pairing, code reviews, and continuous improvement are how you operate, not boxes you tick Strong English-language communication skills and the ability to work effectively in globally distributed, cross-functional teams – you can explain complex technical concepts simply Keen interest in ongoing learning, both business and technical – you'll gain deep understanding of IG's trading products and financial markets, and share this knowledge with others Familiarity with financial services or trading platforms is highly desirable but not essential — curiosity and learning ability matter more Willingness to participate in on-call rotation — because you build it, you run it, you love it This is a hybrid position (3 days onsite, 2 days remote work) How we work We try to take a thoughtful approach to our ways of working as a company.
