Your team

The Lifecycle team is a product-aligned, customer-first engineering team owning onboarding, activation, and engagement experiences across IG's platform. We build and support the critical first-mile customer journey and ongoing engagement features - with an obsessive focus on reducing friction, improving conversion, and driving engineering excellence to ensure our systems are reliable, performant, and easy to change.

Your role in the Team's Success

Your primary responsibility will be to lead a small, high-performing engineering team – combining hands-on technical excellence with day-to-day leadership. You'll set technical direction for your domain, drive delivery of business-critical features, and ensure your team operates with an ownership mindset. You'll work as a hands-on practitioner who leads by example, spending significant time writing code while coaching others to grow into independent, self-sufficient engineers. You'll leverage AI-assisted development tools as a core part of your workflow — we expect engineering leaders to actively embrace AI to multiply their team's impact. Think and act like an owner – your leadership directly impacts our customers’ ability to achieve their financial goals. 

What you'll do

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of features within your domain – from technical design through to production – taking accountability for performance, reliability, and business outcomes 

  • Stay hands-on with code, demonstrating high-quality engineering that embodies what a world-class engineer should be – your team learns from your example 

  • Coach and develop team members to become independent, self-sufficient engineers – everyone on your team should aspire to grow and operate autonomously 

  • Drive technical excellence and raise the bar across your team – set and enforce high standards for code quality, testing, observability, and documentation  

  • Partner with Product, Design and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions that champion the client and deliver real commercial value one iteration at a time 

  • Identify and escalate risks early, remove delivery blockers, and ensure your team delivers at pace without compromising quality 

  • Think big – proactively identify opportunities to improve systems, reduce complexity, and challenge the status quo rather than just maintaining things as they are 

  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate your team's delivery, improve code quality, and stay at the cutting edge of modern engineering practices 

  • You'll need to be willing to commit to an on-call support rota - on-call time is compensated (This is a Full Time employment contract, not B2B)

What you'll need for this role

For this role, we're looking for someone with: 

  • Extensive software engineering experience with a strong track record of technical delivery and informal leadership – you've been the go-to person others turn to for guidance 

  • Deep expertise in your core technology stack, particularly Front End expertise in React/React Native – you know when to use the right tool and how to make it sing 

  • Battle-tested experience building and operating production systems – you've been on-call when something breaks at night and lived to tell the tale 

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop other engineers – you get genuine satisfaction from helping others grow 

  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools is expected – we're looking for technical leaders who see AI as a force multiplier, not a threat 

  • Whilst a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering would be useful, we value real world practical experience. If you’re an excellent engineering leader then do apply!
