Description

You will design, develop, test, and maintain Python-based software solutions and microservices that automate complex network operations. The work focuses on gRPC APIs defined with Protocol Buffers (Protobuf) and automation using Cisco Network Services Orchestrator (NSO) to configure devices and provision network services. You will contribute to software architecture, reliability, and production support while collaborating across engineering and network operations teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain Python microservices for network automation and orchestration
• Develop and integrate gRPC services using Protocol Buffers to define APIs
• Build reusable components, libraries, and APIs that integrate with internal systems and network infrastructure
• Follow SDLC best practices; write clean, maintainable, well-documented, thoroughly tested code
• Troubleshoot defects and implement reliable solutions
• Participate in technical design discussions to improve architecture, performance, and maintainability
• Develop and maintain automation using Cisco NSO (service packages, service models, device integrations)
• Interface with Cisco NSO APIs to support provisioning and service lifecycle operations
• Collaborate with network engineering/operations to translate requirements into automated workflows
• Develop automation that reduces manual configuration, minimizes errors, and accelerates service delivery
• Build GitLab CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, builds, and deployments
• Package and deploy containerized applications using Docker (services via Docker Swarm)
• Implement automated tests and participate in code reviews
• Support monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining reliability of production microservices
• Work in an Agile environment and participate in sprint planning, standups, backlog refinement, reviews, and retrospectives

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience
• 3+ years of professional software development experience with production applications
• Proficiency in Python (object-oriented programming, common libraries, best practices)
• Experience developing or integrating APIs and backend services
• Familiarity with microservices architecture and distributed application concepts
• Understanding of software design principles, data structures, and common programming patterns
• Experience with Git-based source control and collaborative workflows
• Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, and modern delivery practices
• Experience with Docker or similar containerization technologies
• Experience debugging applications and implementing fixes
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Ability to work independently on well-defined tasks and contribute to moderately complex projects
