Description

Join the cross-functional team building the IonQ Cloud Platform that connects customers to quantum computers via APIs, tools, and partner clouds. You will help deliver the end-to-end quantum job flow—breakdown, compilation, queuing, execution on hardware, and result return—while defining API contracts and building critical backend services. You will also strengthen testing, observability, continuous delivery, stability, and security, integrate AI capabilities, and mentor engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend capabilities for a strong developer experience for quantum novices and experts
• Define and implement API contracts; strengthen testing, observability, and continuous delivery
• Contribute to a job processing pipeline covering pre-processing, asynchronous execution, and post-processing
• Integrate AI capabilities to improve customer experience; use AI-assisted development responsibly
• Mentor engineers, drive technical alignment across teams, and participate in on-call rotations and incident reviews

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering (or equivalent training and experience)
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong experience with large-scale cloud platforms and scalable, robust service design
• Programming experience in Go, TypeScript, or Python
• Database experience including PostgreSQL
• Cloud-native experience on AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure, with Kubernetes or serverless
• Ability to design and implement critical components (APIs, services, exception handling, data access, security)
• Experience with automated testing, production troubleshooting, and observability
• Practical experience with AI-assisted engineering tools, including validating generated code for correctness and security
• Track record of leading projects in cross-functional teams and strong communication/collaboration
