Description

Build and operate backend, platform, and integration microservices at scale for healthcare data exchange. Design secure, compliant, highly available microservices and integrate with healthcare ecosystems and third-party platforms in a regulated domain. Partner with product, architecture, security, and DevOps teams to ensure reliability, observability, and production readiness.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java/JEE and Spring Boot backend microservices with secure, performant, resilient RESTful APIs

• Implement event-driven patterns using Apache Kafka (producers/consumers, schema evolution, partitioning, consumer groups)

• Model and exchange data using JSON with validation, versioning, and backward compatibility

• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (unit/integration testing, static analysis, artifact promotion, progressive delivery)

• Integrate automated security controls with Security and DevOps (SAST, DAST, dependency/image scanning, secrets management)

• Deploy and operate services on Google Cloud Platform (GKE or Cloud Run, IAM, managed data services) using cloud-native patterns

• Apply 12-factor app principles, infrastructure-as-code, and configuration management best practices

• Integrate with EHR systems and healthcare standards (HL7 v2, FHIR, SMART on FHIR, CCD/C-CDA)

• Ensure HIPAA compliance, data governance, encryption in transit and at rest

• Own production readiness (availability, latency, throughput, cost efficiency) and perform root-cause analysis

• Implement observability (structured logging, metrics, tracing) for proactive monitoring and incident response

• Participate in architecture and code reviews and mentor junior engineers

Requirements

• 7+ years professional software development with Java/JEE and Spring Boot

• 5+ years building RESTful microservices/distributed systems; REST API design, JSON data modeling, OpenAPI/Swagger

• 5+ years CI/CD pipelines and containerized workloads (Docker; Kubernetes preferred)

• 3+ years operating production services in cloud environments, preferably Google Cloud Platform

• 3+ years Kafka (or similar event-streaming platforms)

• 3+ years security fundamentals (OAuth2/OIDC, TLS, secrets management)

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)
