Description

The Safety and Occupational Health Specialist conducts difficult inspections, audits, and investigations to identify hazards and reduce unsafe environmental conditions across a wide range of healthcare work areas. The role ensures workplaces meet regulatory requirements, manages fire alarm testing and drills, and prepares documentation, reports, and recommendations. Responsibilities include developing safety plans and procedures and using data analysis to identify trends and potential threats.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and perform inspections to evaluate hazards, risks, and unsafe environmental conditions

• Conduct audits and evaluations to check compliance with safety and health regulations and standards

• Generate required documentation and recommend changes to mitigate hazards

• Schedule and perform fire alarm tests and drills; critique results and debrief participants

• Investigate accidents and mishaps; collect witness statements; document scenes; analyze trends; estimate property damage; prepare findings and recommendations

• Create safety plans, supplements, guidelines, and written procedures for multiple departments and facilities

• Statistically analyze investigation/study data; develop tables and graphs to identify hazards and threats

• Inspect construction projects for compliance and perform design review for new or renovated areas

• Perform other duties as assigned
