Quick Facts

  • Role: Senior DSP Fixed-Point Design Engineer

Description

This role translates floating-point DSP algorithms into bit-true, cycle-accurate fixed-point models and hardware-friendly architectures for aerospace silicon. You will perform quantization and precision analyses (finite word-length, quantization noise, and SNR/EVM trade-offs), then partner with RTL and Design Verification teams to validate functional correctness and support sign-off. The work targets low power, high throughput, and minimal silicon area for flight-critical signal processing.

Responsibilities

  • Convert floating-point DSP algorithms into bit-true, cycle-accurate fixed-point models using MATLAB, C++, or Python
  • Perform quantization noise and finite word-length studies, including trade-offs for area/power/performance vs. SNR/EVM degradation
  • Specify fixed-point DSP architectures (pipeline structures, word lengths, rounding modes, overflow/saturation, scaling)
  • Collaborate with RTL teams to guide implementation of DSP blocks (multipliers, CORDIC, FFTs, digital filters) and review RTL vs. reference models
  • Generate fixed-point test vectors and golden reference models for pre-silicon DV and post-silicon validation
  • Optimize micro-architecture for power, throughput, and silicon area in custom hardware accelerators
  • Coordinate across systems engineering, avionics, and software teams to meet end-to-end requirements

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field
  • 5+ years of hands-on silicon/ASIC/FPGA development experience with DSP hardware implementation
  • Deep understanding of fixed-point arithmetic, quantization noise modeling, overflow/underflow handling, dynamic range management, and scaling techniques
  • Expert proficiency in MATLAB, C++, and/or Python (NumPy/SciPy) for algorithm modeling, simulation, and automated verification
  • Strong DSP fundamentals including FIR/IIR filters, FFT architectures, multi-rate signal processing, and AGC
  • Ability to clearly document and communicate complex technical trade-offs

Benefits

  • Opportunity to contribute to flight-critical, reliability-focused DSP hardware for aerospace applications
  • Work on hardware architectures optimized for area, power, and performance
