Product Engineer

Senior • On-site

353,000 - 393,000 PLN/yr

Warsaw, Poland

Quick Facts

  • Role: Product Engineer (Workflow Underwriting stream)

Description

Join the Workflow Underwriting stream to build the next generation underwriting platform. You’ll turn ambiguous underwriting problems into simple, reliable software while shaping architecture, domain modeling, persistence, reliability, observability, and platform evolution. You’ll also help design agent-assisted workflows with explicit decisions about where agents act, advise, or where humans must stay in control.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate backend services in Kotlin or Java, owning them in production

  • Translate ambiguous underwriting needs into reliable software (deciding what to build is a major part of the job)

  • Shape architectural decisions: APIs, domain models, persistence, reliability, observability, and how the platform evolves without collapsing under complexity

  • Develop deep underwriting domain understanding to challenge requirements, not only implement them

  • Design and build agent-assisted workflows and make judgment calls about agent vs human control

  • Use AI coding tools, including Claude, delegating substantial work while staying accountable for quality, security, and correctness

  • Collaborate across frontend engineers, product partners, and client-facing teams; communicate directly with underwriters

Requirements

  • Strong professional experience building and running backend systems in Kotlin, Java, or another JVM language

  • Judgment in architecture and system design

  • Evidence of shipping software that solved real customer or business problems, ideally end-to-end ownership

  • Self-starting approach and ability to find high-value problems

  • Clear communication across underwriters, executives, and engineers

  • Appetite for open-ended problems with no known precedent

  • Confident, responsible use of AI coding tools with critical evaluation

  • Receptiveness to direct feedback and ability to raise the engineering bar

Benefits

  • Learning & Development: £5,000 GBP budget

  • Mental health: Support and therapy via Spectrum Life

  • Holiday: 25 days + Polish bank holidays (B2B) or 26 days + Polish bank holidays (Contract)

  • Wellbeing: Monthly wellbeing allowance via Juno

  • Healthcare: Optional private healthcare via Luxmed + Multisport (B2B) or Private Healthcare Insurance via Luxmed (Contract)

  • Contract benefits: pension, company sick pay for 10 days at 100% salary (Contract)

  • Equipment: top-spec laptop and work equipment (MacOS or Windows, monitors, mechanical keyboards, etc.)
