Description

Lead software engineering teams building reliable, secure, and efficient cloud compute and bare-metal datacenter infrastructure. Own architecture, implementation, deployment, and operations for compute control planes, bare-metal lifecycle automation, and CI services that integrate and validate hardware/firmware/drivers/networking/system software toward production readiness. Focus on shortening validation cycles, improving observability and failure isolation, and scaling capacity with measurable reliability and delivery gains.

Responsibilities

• Lead teams responsible for cloud compute, bare-metal fleet management, and CI infrastructure (architecture, implementation, deployment, operations)
• Set technical direction for compute control planes: resource provisioning, topology-aware placement, reservations, and capacity management across bare metal, VMs, and containers
• Automate the bare-metal lifecycle: hardware discovery & inventory, server bring-up, imaging, firmware/driver configuration, out-of-band management, health checks, reprovisioning, and recovery
• Build CI services to allocate hardware, provision repeatable test environments, record configurations, collect diagnostics, and restore systems to a known state
• Maintain dependable engineering services for evolving preproduction platforms; define service-level objectives, isolate failures, improve observability, and drive recurring test-infrastructure issues into fixes
• Measure and improve onboarding time, provisioning speed, CI queue time, productive fleet utilization, recovery time, and cost efficiency as capacity expands
• Set standards for design/code reviews, automated testing, secure development, release quality, and safe production changes
• Hire, coach, and retain engineers and engineering managers; develop technical leaders and ownership across multiple release cycles
• Partner with hardware, firmware, drivers, networking, storage, security, and validation teams; translate user needs into priorities and technical decisions
• Work with datacenter operations and facilities to bring capacity online; integrate rack power/cooling topology and hardware-health telemetry into provisioning, placement, and operational readiness

Requirements

• 15+ years overall experience in software engineering, distributed systems, or cloud infrastructure
• 7+ years leading engineering teams and managing engineering managers
• Direct engineering ownership of core services for a public or private compute cloud (AWS EC2, Google Compute Engine, Azure Compute, OCI Compute, or comparable IaaS)
• Strong technical depth in distributed systems, Linux, virtualization, containers, and networking/storage services supporting large compute fleets
• Experience building automation for bare-metal infrastructure: server provisioning, hardware inventory, firmware/OS lifecycle management, and recovery across heterogeneous systems
• Experience running production infrastructure with demanding availability requirements: failure isolation, incident response, observability, reliable deployment and recovery
• Ability to guide architecture and debug complex interactions among hardware, firmware, drivers, operating systems, and distributed services
• Proven sustained ownership with measurable improvements in reliability, scalability, or engineering delivery
• Strong communication, collaboration, and people-development skills
• Degree in computer science/computer engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience)

Benefits

• Base salary range: 320,000 USD – 488,750 USD (depends on location and experience)
