Description

You will operate, develop, and manage the lifecycle of the core infrastructure foundation (Virtualization, Storage, Network) and take over replacement work from Red Hat Virtualization/oVirt (KVM). You will administer a heterogeneous SAN/storage landscape, plan capacities and expansions, and regularly design, implement, and test backup and disaster recovery procedures. You will also manage hardware lifecycle tasks, harden and patch/firmware-manage systems, and enable self-service provisioning and automation for core services.

Responsibilities

  • Run, improve, and administer the lifecycle of the virtualization platform

  • Administer SAN/storage, including FC fabric, zoning, and LUN mapping for heterogeneous hosts; plan capacity and extensions

  • Design, implement, and routinely test backup and disaster recovery procedures

  • Own data center hardware lifecycle: procurement, install/remove, initial configuration, EOL tracking, and maintenance planning/execution

  • Secure infrastructure through hardening plus patch and firmware management

  • Build self-service offerings for provisioning VMs, storage, and networks

  • Automate recurring tasks (e.g., Ansible or Terraform) and reduce technical debt

  • Maintain documentation and runbooks; share knowledge actively within the team

  • Collaborate with product teams, architects, and security experts to align core platform services with requirements and feedback

  • Support infrastructure qualification in a regulated medical device environment

Requirements

  • Completed degree in Computer Science or equivalent qualification

  • Several years of experience operating data center infrastructure; broad knowledge of virtualization, storage, and networking; deep knowledge in at least one area

  • Experience with Linux-based enterprise virtualization (ideally Red Hat Virtualization/oVirt or KVM)

  • Very good knowledge of VMware vSphere/ESXi

  • Solid SAN/storage fundamentals including FC fabric, zoning, LUN mapping, and array administration

  • Experience with backup and disaster recovery including recovery planning, testing, and documentation

  • Experience with capacity planning, EOL tracking, and proactive renewal planning

  • Willingness to work on-site in the data center and perform planned maintenance

  • Hands-on, structured, and careful working approach with strong service and customer orientation

  • Very good German and good English skills
