Description

You will support the operation and administration of complex network infrastructure, including hybrid-cloud environments with Microsoft 365 (MS365). The role focuses on firewall/VPN and external mail gateway administration, network design and documentation (routing/switching, VLANs, subnets, IP ranges), and monitoring performance and availability. You will also plan and implement network projects and provide 2nd-level support, with a required successful security clearance (SÜ 2).

Responsibilities

  • Administer the firewall environment, including VPN connectivity for external locations: implement policy changes, monitor systems, analyze logs, plan and deploy updates, and ensure antivirus
  • Administer the external mail gateway: implement policy changes, antivirus and spam protection, monitor systems, and plan and deploy updates
  • Document and prioritize network requirements and align them with the team, including MS365 cloud/hybrid needs (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint)
  • Integrate new locations, devices, services, and cloud resources into the network topology and keep documentation up to date
  • Design subnets and VLANs; reserve and document IP address ranges
  • Test high availability for on-prem and cloud environments; plan backup links and failover mechanisms and oversee implementation
  • Monitor and analyze network performance in on-prem and cloud environments
  • Install, configure, maintain routers, switches, and security features; perform patch management
  • Perform troubleshooting and vulnerability analyses
  • Provide 2nd-level support for the network domain
  • Update network plans and document configurations and protocols
  • Independently plan and deliver assigned projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Information Technology (or equivalent Bachelor-level qualification) with at least 3 years of relevant experience in network engineering, including hybrid-cloud environments (MS365)
  • German language skills: C1/C2 (written and spoken)
  • Strong MS Office knowledge
  • Multi-year practical experience operating complex network infrastructures including MS365 hybrid-cloud
  • Extensive knowledge of routing, switching, and fabric
  • Firewall and VPN expertise
  • Knowledge of common network software (ideally Extreme Networks) and current MS365 administration tools
  • Willingness for on-site work within Darmstadt and for services outside regular working hours
  • Driver’s license class B
  • Teamwork, communication, initiative, organizational skills, and willingness to continue training
  • Ability to work safely at a computer (screen-capable)
  • Willingness to undergo an extended security screening (SÜ 2) under the Security Screening Act; successful completion is a prerequisite for employment
