Description

You will lead a New York-based team of engineers who own several AWS SDKs, setting technical direction, keeping operations healthy, and owning the roadmap. This is a hands-on engineering management role—staying close to designs, code reviews, and operational decisions while building a strong, sustainable team. You will hire and grow engineers, balance feature delivery with maintainability and backward compatibility, and collaborate with sister SDK teams and the open-source community.

Responsibilities

• Lead, hire, and develop a team of about 8–12 software engineers; cultivate ownership, high standards, and continuous learning.
• Grow engineers across the career ladder (SDE I to SDE II; SDE II to Senior SDE) with clear, actionable feedback.
• Own the SDK roadmap by working backward from customer feedback, GitHub issues, support cases, and usage data.
• Engage with the open-source community to keep SDKs responsive, transparent, and trustworthy.
• Make sound tradeoffs among speed, quality, and backward compatibility across a large, generated codebase.
• Partner with sister SDK teams to ship features that span every language.

Requirements

• 3+ years of engineering team management experience
• 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams
• 3+ years of designing or architecting systems (design patterns, reliability, scaling)
• 8+ years leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns across the full software/hardware/networks development lifecycle (coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, live-site operations)
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Benefits

Base salary range: USD 184,900–250,200 annually, plus sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
