Description

Build and maintain software services that steer traffic across the AWS global backbone network by detecting congestion and failures and automatically rerouting traffic to healthier paths in real time.

Design production-grade, well-tested software that improves reliability and performance at massive scale and enhances monitoring, alerting, and automation.

Collaborate with network and systems engineers, participate in code reviews, and join on-call rotations to resolve issues and address root causes.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain software services for traffic steering across the AWS global backbone
• Develop and extend traffic engineering controllers for real-time congestion/failure detection and automatic rerouting
• Write clean, well-tested code in production environments where availability impacts customers
• Contribute to system design (API design, data modeling, scale/reliability trade-offs)
• Build and improve monitoring, alerting, and automation tooling for network health visibility
• Collaborate with network engineers, systems engineers, and partner teams to translate operational needs into software
• Participate in code reviews
• Participate in on-call rotations (typically one week every two months) to resolve issues and fix root causes
• Identify opportunities to simplify, automate, or improve existing systems and processes

Requirements

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 1+ years designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using C#, C++, Java, or Perl
