Description

Lead the architecture and development of scalable, high-impact backend software systems. Translate business needs into reliable, performant, and maintainable services while driving engineering practices through reviews, documentation, and mentorship. Continuously evaluate emerging technologies to improve quality, efficiency, and scalability.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable, high-quality backend solutions for complex requirements

  • Drive architecture and design decisions across multiple systems

  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers on technical requirements and tradeoffs

  • Write clean, maintainable, efficient code and reinforce engineering best practices

  • Perform code and design reviews; provide actionable technical guidance

  • Troubleshoot complex issues using root-cause analysis and systematic problem solving

  • Optimize performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, architectural patterns, and reusable standards

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to engineering quality and scalability

  • Mentor engineers to strengthen team capabilities

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with programming languages/frameworks (Ruby on Rails, PHP, Python, JavaScript)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering or equivalent experience

  • Web application experience and familiarity with content management systems (WordPress, Strapi, Contentful)

  • Strong understanding of REST API design, building, and consumption

  • Proficiency with version control and collaborative workflows (Git)

  • Knowledge of performance optimization, caching, and CDNs

  • Experience with performance tuning, memory optimization, and diagnostic tools

  • Proficiency with CI/CD practices

  • Understanding of software architecture, system design, scalability, and reliability principles

  • Proven experience improving team efficiency/output using AI tools and automation

  • Ability to independently develop technical perspectives for ambiguous systems

  • Proactive research and adoption of current/emerging technologies

  • Ability to influence technical direction and collaborate cross-functionally
