Description

As a Staff Software Engineer I, you drive the architecture and development of complex, high-impact software systems. You solve ambiguous technical challenges, establish scalable patterns, and influence engineering decisions beyond your immediate work while partnering with product managers, designers, and engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable, high-quality software for complex business and technical requirements
  • Lead architecture and design decisions for high-impact initiatives across multiple systems
  • Collaborate to define technical requirements, tradeoffs, and implementation approaches
  • Write clean, maintainable, efficient code and reinforce engineering best practices
  • Conduct code and design reviews; provide actionable technical guidance
  • Troubleshoot complex issues using root-cause analysis and systematic problem solving
  • Optimize performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability
  • Maintain technical documentation, architectural patterns, and reusable engineering standards
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend approaches to improve quality, efficiency, or scalability
  • Mentor engineers and strengthen engineering capabilities across the team

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience using relevant languages/frameworks (Ruby on Rails, PHP, Python, JavaScript)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Web application development experience and experience with CMS platforms (WordPress, Strapi, Contentful)
  • Strong understanding of designing, building, and consuming REST APIs
  • Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows
  • Knowledge of performance optimization, caching, and CDNs
  • Experience with performance tuning, memory optimization, and diagnostic tools
  • Proficiency with CI/CD practices
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, system design, scalability, and reliability
  • Proven experience using AI tools and automation to improve team efficiency or output quality
