• Role: Senior Software Engineer (MAI – Bing Places)
• Focus: Geospatial and business location data foundations for Copilot, Bing, and Grounding
• Work model: Expected in-office at least four days per week (subject to local law)

Description

You will build and scale services that extract, transform, and load global places data from billions of location entities to power Copilot, Bing, and Grounding experiences. The work spans large-scale interactive analytics, map-reduce compute, machine learning/AI, and LLM-enabled capabilities, with strong emphasis on security, privacy, and compliance. You’ll collaborate across product and technical teams to deliver maintainable, testable backend systems.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product managers and technical leads to establish and refine user requirements
• Own design and component-level decisions for services, aligned with security, privacy, and compliance
• Write high-quality, maintainable, extensible code; uphold standards via code reviews
• Develop and improve test plans and automation for robust backend service coverage
• Integrate telemetry and improve tools/processes for reliability, accessibility, and regulatory expectations
• Partner across teams, contribute to peer reviews, and share knowledge
• Provide technical leadership by influencing design and elevating engineering practices

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field
• 4+ years technical engineering experience coding in C/C++/C#/Java/JavaScript/Python (or equivalent)
• Strong system design and architecture skills
• Ability to debug complex issues across client and server layers

Preferred Qualifications

• 4+ years coding experience in C/C++/C#/Java/Python/Scala with strong data structures, algorithms, and system design fundamentals
• Experience with big data systems (Spark/PySpark) or stream processing systems
• Experience with cloud services
