Description

Own the end-to-end sensor hardware safety strategy for cameras, LiDAR, radar, IMUs, and other sensors used in automotive systems. Define hardware safety requirements and drive safety analyses and safety cases (including FMEA, FMEDA, DFA, and FTA) to guide architecture and design improvements. Collaborate across sensor, board, software, systems, validation, and supplier teams, and produce safety documentation and integration guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end sensor hardware safety strategy for automotive sensor systems (cameras, LiDAR, radar, IMUs, and more)

  • Support sensor supplier selection via technical and safety evaluations of architectures, safety concepts, safety analysis, and integration assumptions

  • Define and manage sensor hardware safety requirements (power, interfaces, timing, synchronization, data integrity, fault detection, fault response)

  • Collaborate with sensor architects, board/system designers, software, and validation engineers to implement safety requirements

  • Perform and review safety cases and analyses (FMEA, FMEDA, DFA, FTA) and use results to drive architecture and design changes

  • Evaluate supplier safety manuals, analysis reports, assumptions of use, and evidence for integration

  • Develop safety documentation, integration guidance, analysis reports, and user-facing safety information for internal teams and customers

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or related engineering field (or equivalent experience)

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in automotive sensors, hardware systems, functional safety, or related field

  • Understanding of automotive sensor technologies (cameras, radar, LiDAR, IMUs), including hardware architectures and system interfaces

  • Knowledge of safety analysis methodologies including FMEA, FMEDA, DFA, and FTA

  • Ability to work effectively with sensor suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams from concept through integration and verification

  • Proven ownership and proactivity with a strong bias for action and results

  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Base salary range: USD 184,000–287,500 (Level 4) or USD 224,000–356,500 (Level 5), based on location and experience
