Description

Responsible for buying/selling natural gas supply for regulated utility assets by executing multi-million-dollar transactions in the natural gas commodity market. You will develop and execute gas supply plans, negotiate gas purchase agreements, monitor markets in real time, and use financial derivatives and physical supply agreements to ensure reliable service and optimize cost. You will also support regulatory testimony and maintain documentation and contract administration for purchased gas supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute daily, annual, and long-range gas supply plans with limited oversight

  • Independently negotiate gas purchase agreements with producers, brokers, and marketers

  • Participate in modeling and developing supply plans; perform real-time analysis to ensure reliable gas and electric service

  • Coordinate with Gas Schedulers to ensure delivered supply meets daily and hourly requirements economically

  • Monitor financial trading markets; develop and revise purchasing plans or trading strategies

  • Optimize transportation and storage assets through arbitrage

  • Negotiate derivatives and other financial transactions for short- and long-term hedging of natural gas price exposure

  • Produce regulatory testimony for state commission proceedings, including fuel reconciliation and rate cases

  • Develop and negotiate gas supply sales agreements tied to electric trading transactions; maximize profitability and minimize fuel cost

  • Contribute to regulatory and internal policy on gas procurement and recovery of related costs

  • Monitor accounting operations and contract administration for purchased gas supply; maintain documentation for regulators

  • Maintain communications with qualified suppliers

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience, including at least 3 years of natural gas industry experience

  • Understanding of gas markets, interstate pipeline networks, transportation & storage contracts, FERC regulations, and negotiation strategies

  • Ability to independently negotiate high-dollar transactions

  • Direct gas buying/trading experience, including financial hedging instruments or gas transportation/scheduler analyst experience

  • Ability to work 6am–3pm with holiday and weekend rotational coverage
