Description

A Senior Data Scientist role focused on delivering data science and analytics solutions to support clinical development and R&D decisions. The position blends advanced statistical methods with machine learning/AI to create insights, develop KPIs and analyses, and help evaluate clinical trial progress and risks. Work must follow regulatory and quality requirements (GCP, ICH, SOPs) and is performed in close collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Act as an analytics consultant to cross-functional teams: define problems, anticipate timeline/quality issues, and propose options and solutions.

  • Establish and apply design principles/standards so analytical outputs are consistent and optimized for user experience.

  • Develop prototypes, test methods, and algorithms using emerging statistical methodologies, ML, and AI.

  • Enable data-driven insights across the clinical development continuum, including precision medicine.

  • Ensure adherence to federal/local regulations, Good Clinical Practices (GCP), ICH Guidelines, and AbbVie SOPs; stay current on evolving guidance.

  • Identify business needs and support creation of standard KPIs, reports, and statistical analyses.

  • Coach and mentor junior team members.

  • Use machine learning to validate assumptions and predict future behavior; support discussions of emerging risks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, analytics, bioinformatics, data science or equivalent (Master’s preferred).

  • 3–5 years of analytics-related experience in clinical research with demonstrated leadership.

  • Advanced proficiency in R, Python, or other statistical packages.

  • Intermediate knowledge of statistical and data mining techniques.

  • Expert proficiency with visualization tools such as Spotfire or Tableau (or equivalent).

  • Proven expertise with machine learning and other advanced analytics techniques.

  • Strong communication skills; able to explain analytical/technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Proven ability to execute successfully in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

  • Cloud computing experience (AWS/Azure) preferred.
