Description

Apply the scientific method to extract insights and knowledge from large-scale data, including time-series (smart meters, smart grid, IoT), structured relational data, and unstructured text and multimedia.

Develop and validate predictive machine learning and statistical models on complex datasets at multi-terabyte/petabyte scale, then translate findings into actionable recommendations for business stakeholders.

Collaborate closely across teams to collect, cleanse, standardize, and analyze data and to evolve advanced analytics capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop predictive models to improve customer experience, operating performance, and safety best practices

  • Recommend data sampling techniques, data collection and data cleaning specifications; apply missing data treatments

  • Analyze data using advanced analytics frameworks (e.g., Python, SQL, Spark, Hadoop file system)

  • Access and analyze data from multiple systems of record; support strategic business/marketing/program plans

  • Access and enrich data warehouses across departments; build, modify, monitor, and maintain high-performance computing systems

  • Provide expert data and analytics support to multiple business units

  • Work with stakeholders to define data-intensive business problems, translate them into data science projects, and collaborate across analytics teams

  • Advise stakeholders on machine learning findings and recommend courses of action to redirect resources

  • Educate stakeholders through presentations, training workshops, and publications

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline

  • 4–7 years of relevant experience applying machine learning, validating results on multi-terabyte datasets, and extracting actionable insights

  • Strong knowledge in at least two areas: machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistical modeling, data mining, information retrieval, or data visualization

  • Proven experience developing and deploying predictive analytics projects using one or more of Python, R, Scala (or similar)

  • Experience working in an open-source environment and a Unix-based OS

  • Ability to translate findings into coherent, actionable recommendations; strong oral and written communication
