Description

You will contribute to a configurable cloud telemetry platform that uses OpenTelemetry and AWS services to deliver flexible observability capabilities. The role involves extending telemetry collection with Python SDKs, implementing AWS Distro for OpenTelemetry collector configurations, and building export pipelines to AWS CloudWatch and AWS X-Ray.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance Python SDK libraries for telemetry collection and observability solutions

  • Design and maintain AWS Distro for OpenTelemetry collector configurations (pipelines, processors, exporters)

  • Implement OpenTelemetry SDK extension patterns for custom metrics and custom spans

  • Build and optimize export pipelines for AWS CloudWatch Metrics and AWS X-Ray

  • Create and maintain YAML-driven telemetry configuration schemas

  • Collaborate with engineering teams on observability requirements and telemetry standards

  • Support technical design discussions, testing, troubleshooting, and performance optimization

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in observability engineering, platform engineering, or related area

  • Experience designing and implementing AWS Distro for OpenTelemetry or OpenTelemetry collector pipelines

  • Experience developing Python SDKs, libraries, or reusable software components

  • Experience integrating with AWS CloudWatch Metrics and AWS X-Ray

  • Experience with YAML-based configuration management

  • Understanding of metrics, traces, and telemetry pipelines

  • Experience with source control and collaborative development practices
