Description

You will lead and grow a new transmission line engineering practice, supporting nationwide utility clients and helping build the team from the ground up alongside an existing substation engineering practice. The role combines operational management, technical leadership for complex transmission line work, staff development, QA/QC standards, and strategic growth. You will also partner with clients and business leaders on proposals and successful project execution.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop transmission line engineering teams; set performance expectations and conduct performance reviews
  • Manage staffing, recruiting, workload forecasting, and resource allocation
  • Oversee safe, on-schedule, on-budget delivery aligned to quality standards and client expectations
  • Provide technical leadership and act as a senior technical resource for staff and clients
  • Establish and improve engineering standards, QA/QC processes, and operational workflows
  • Own department operational performance (utilization, backlog management, staffing forecasts, revenue targets, profitability)
  • Partner with project managers and business leaders to manage risks and resolve schedule, budget, and quality concerns
  • Build relationships with utility clients and partners; support pursuits, proposals, scope definition, and contract negotiations
  • Identify opportunities for business growth, service expansion, and market development
  • Champion safety, quality, compliance, and professional development; ensure adherence to applicable standards and regulatory obligations

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Power Engineering (or related field)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
  • 12+ years of experience with an electric utility, EPC, or engineering consulting firm
  • 10+ years of transmission line engineering experience (design, analysis, modeling, or similar)
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and project portfolios, including resource planning and financial performance
  • Project management experience for transmission projects from 4kV–500kV using WBS and critical path; milestone and change management
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD and transmission line engineering industry software/tools
  • Ability to travel for client presentations, field visits, conferences, and project reviews
