Description

The Adult Military and Family Life Counseling (MFLC) program provides non-medical, preventive counseling support for U.S. military service members and their families as they handle military life adjustments. The Adult-MFLC position delivers counseling, consultation, and outreach to service members, military family members, and eligible staff using solution-focused approaches before issues become greater challenges.

Adult-MFLC Responsibilities Include

  • Face-to-face counseling to military service members and their families (individuals, couples, and families)
  • Visually observe, participate, and engage in activities; provide coaching, guidance, and support to installation staff; and model behavior management techniques
  • Offer presentations to service members, military families, and military leadership at military-connect events
  • Promote creativity and positivity through approved materials
  • Build rapport with parents and families by attending installation and community events
  • Help with transition adjustments (e.g., new school and new home)
  • Participate in regular in-service training or other contract activities as assigned
  • Communicate information regarding trends and issues at the assigned installation to Team Leads

Additional Job Duties May Include

  • Responding to emergent situations in any physical location on a military installation
  • Traversing long distances to indoor and outdoor locations, including rugged/uneven areas (ascend/descend)
  • Working outdoors in weather exposure
  • Traveling to locations outside a military base in varied physical environments
  • Complying with various site-specific requirements to work at designated locations

Environment

  • Duties performed in multiple indoor locations (~60%) and outdoor locations (~40%)
  • Indoor locations may be within a school setting controlled by the state and/or Department of Defense Education Activity
  • Outdoor locations may involve uneven grassy/gravel/dirt areas, ascending/descending stairs, and weather exposure

Licensure Portability

Under NDAA, licensed MFLCs may provide non-medical counseling services anywhere in a U.S. state, DC, or territory/possession regardless of the counselor’s licensing state, within the MFLC program scope. A counselor may hold any independent and clinical license recognized by the Secretary of Defense as appropriate for non-medical counseling services.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree or higher in Behavioral Health Professions (MS/MSW/MA/PhD)
  • Valid independent mental health license from any US state or territory (LCSW, MHC, MFT, LPCC, Psychologist)
  • U.S. citizen
  • Ability to pass a basic background check for employment and a secret security clearance

Pay Range

$59,150.00 - $106,925.00
