Description

The Vice President – Medical provides leadership to the South Region developing and directing the Medical Sales and Operations business plan and strategy in conjunction with the executive management team. The VP – Medical maintains full profit and loss responsibility for the South Region and regularly provides review and corrective action plans to executive management, identifying and leading the planning and execution of growth strategies in the South Region Medical Sales and Operations business.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute South Region Medical business strategies and annual plans with the Regional President and executive team in line with Airgas Core Strategy and Strategic Products plans
  • Review South Region Medical operations: P&L analysis of sales, margin, expense, and EBITDA trends; analyze major variances; execute corrective action plans
  • Deliver overall top line performance aligned with medical sales goals by leading all sales efforts: establish territories, quotas, and goals; identify new business opportunities; leverage regional/national/vendor resources; lead recruiting and hiring for customer-facing associates
  • Establish and maintain safety culture in the South Region medical group consistent with policies, procedures, and SAFECOR guidelines; execute Medical Accident and Injury Reduction Plans
  • Lead, manage, motivate, train, and develop field associates; ensure training and adherence to procedures affecting product quality/service
  • Ensure procedure changes are reviewed, approved, and validated prior to implementation
  • Provide leadership on customer feedback and participate in operations improvements at medical plants to ensure outstanding customer service
  • Participate on regional management team to maintain region-wide culture and teamwork; support and execute region-wide initiatives

  • Manage and navigate 50% regional travel across the territory; other projects/initiatives as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Leadership to develop and manage a team of experienced medical sales professionals focused on customer excellence and customer-focused results
  • Versatility in a fast-paced, changing business environment
  • Strong motivational skills
  • Analyze business opportunities and develop successful sales strategies for new business acquisition
  • Business and accounting concept knowledge (ROI, P&L statements, balance sheets, interest and leasing calculations, margin responsibilities)
  • Change-agent mindset with urgency
  • Interpersonal skills to influence others and create cross-functional alignment
  • Strong communication skills for action plans and accountability; highly effective oral/written presentations and proposals
  • Working knowledge of SAP (preferred)

Are you a MATCH?—Required Qualifications

  • Four-year college degree from an accredited institution in Business, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Sales Management, Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of increasing responsibility in B2B sales-related or sales operations
  • Prior experience managing a team and a P&L
  • Track record of achieving profitable medical sales growth and managing change dynamics

Physical Demands

  • Traverse branch office/production/warehouse locations
  • Frequently listen and exchange information
  • Observe and assess information received via computer
  • Use of computer, telephone, and operation of a motor vehicle
  • Conduct business travel by automobile up to 50% of the time

Work Environment

  • Manage and navigate 50% regional travel across the territory
  • Minimal overnight travel
  • Reliable, appropriate transportation required
  • Visit Airgas and customer sites with varying environments/conditions/layouts/accessibility
